A study of the theme of love in the theory of Jacques Lacan.
On Love: Beyond the Object is FAP Publications first book on psychoanalysis in Arabic. The work explores the theme of love in the theory of Jacques Lacan. The book represents a significant milestone in the Foundation for Art & Pychoanalysis's goal to provide an Arabic lexicon for Freudian and Lacanian psychoanalytical theory.
About the book
The reality scene suggests the absence of human love, as if it were a mirage or a place for poetry. In fact, the movement of love is tested in the field of the other, thus generating a useful obstacle to examine, to reveal the self and to demonstrate the ability of love. Love is an action that differs from attraction or compliance or adaptation to the person. It grows in the soil of reality and does not comply with the logic of desire but rather emerges from desire as our study shows.
The openness of being is the essence of love, yet it is also a request and desire for a specific desire within the self, as if the request is a object, item or "thing", while it is a puzzling point not resolved by the desire of the "subject".
We will approach love in Lacan's work following his concept of the symbol. The symbol moves the individual behind or beyond the repressed mental images. From our clinical experience, we see how the obstacle conceals (symptom as Lacan approach), in its developmental path, an active outlet.
If a person perseveres in purifying oneself from deception, new dynamics emerge between the new stance of the self and the freedom of life's giving. A lifestyle may manifest from a meeting that beckons. Desire breaks in the face of the giver, giving love grace and creativity in the final analysis.
