A Dream of a Generation

A Dream of a Generation is collaborative art project, involving students from the University College School (UCS) in London and Collège Notre-Dame de Jamhour (NDJ) in Beirut. The project has been instigated by the Foundation for Art & Psychoanalysis as part of our work in education and aims to create a cultural dialogue between the students in each country.

Over the course of several weeks, students in both schools will work simultaneously on the creation of artworks inspired by their home city and the idea of a journey. The students will be encouraged to explore their memories and identity in the context of where they live and to ultimately think about the concept of a monument reflective of their generation.

The artworks created will be prompted by exploring 5 questions:

- Where in your city do you hold the most memories?

- Can you record your journey to the place that holds the most memories?

- What would you like to say to your city?

- What symbolises your generation's identity?

- What would your Monument look like?

The project will culminate in two exhibitions showcasing the students work, which will open concurrently in both countries. The final collection of work will create the concept of a monument, reflecting the individual perspectives, experiences and dreams of the young people involved.
