Young Shubbak Visit to Kettle's Yard

We facilitated a visit by members of the Young Shubbak Collective to Kettle's Yard, Cambridge.

Working with the Arab British Centre and Shubbak, the Foundation for Art and Psychoanalysis facilitated a visit by members of the Young Shubbak collective to the exhibition Urgent Archive, by artist Issam Kourbaj at Kettle's Yard in Cambridge.

Young Shubbak is a collective of 18-26 years old artists, curators, producers and creatives who programme multi-art form events that are relevant to young people's cultural experiences and promote inclusivity in the arts. The programme, offers free professional development and mentorship, access to workshops and exchanges, and tickets to arts and culture events.

Issam Kourbaj is a renowned artist whose work has reflected on the ongoing conflict in Syria and the devastation of cultural heritage. The Urgent Archive exhibition features key works from his previous collection, as well as a new series that explores themes of loss, memory, and renewal.

The visit, which took place in April 2024, provided the Young Shubbak collective with an opportunity to engage with an institution outside of London, and to engender an understanding of and enable contributions to the cultural dialogue surrounding the Syrian conflict and the preservation of heritage. The aim was to foster cross-cultural understanding, promote artistic talent, and contribute to the development of the next generation of artists and cultural practitioners.
